Volunteer Event
Blessed day I-volunteers,
I am Violet, beneficiary of PGH Blood donation and I want to pay it forward. So grateful to my donor, who I am sure with Happy and Healthy DNA.

Donating blood offers a multitude of benefits, impacting both the recipient and the donor. The primary benefit is the life-saving potential; a single donation can help up to three people. Beyond this altruistic act, several health advantages accrue to the donor
Health Benefits for Blood Donors
Early Detection of Health Issues: Before donation, donors undergo a mini-physical including checks of blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and hemoglobin levels. This can reveal potential health problems like anemia or high blood pressure early on. Blood samples are also screened for infectious diseases such as HIV, hepatitis B and C, and Zika virus, providing valuable health information to the donor
Reduced Risk of Cardiovascular Disease: Donating blood helps regulate iron levels in the body. High iron levels are linked to an increased risk of heart disease, so reducing iron through donation can be beneficial. One study even suggested a potential 88% reduction in heart attack risk for regular donors
Potential Cancer Risk Reduction: While research is ongoing, some studies suggest a link between lower iron levels (achieved through blood donation) and a reduced risk of certain cancers. This is primarily relevant for individuals with conditions like hemochromatosis (iron overload)
Improved Blood Flow and Blood Count: Donating blood can stimulate the body to produce new blood cells, potentially improving blood flow and count. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals with mild anemia5.
Calorie Burning: Donating blood burns approximately 650 calories. However, this should not be considered a primary weight-loss strategy
Psychological Well-being: The act of donating blood provides a sense of purpose and accomplishment, contributing to improved mental well-being. Knowing you're helping others can be incredibly rewarding
Important Note: While donating blood offers many benefits, it's crucial to ensure you meet the eligibility criteria before donating. Consult with a healthcare professional if you have any concerns or pre-existing health conditions.
