Mission statement
Break the Fake Movement’s vision is to build a community of media and information literate Filipinos who are leveraging the power of critical thinking to enable positive and inclusive participation. It is our mission to equip every Filipino with essential media and information literacy knowledge and skills, debunk disinformation, and promote critical thinking and positive participation to strengthen our democratic institutions.
The Break the Fake Movement (BTFM) is a Philippine-based, SEC-registered civil society organization that promotes media and information literacy (MIL) and supports UNESCO’s efforts to build MIL competencies across the country and Southeast Asia through leadership and community initiatives.
Since 2017, BTFM has launched fact-checking programs, trainings, competitions, and workshops in the Philippines and neighboring countries to strengthen critical thinking, promote responsible digital citizenship, and build communities rooted in positive and inclusive participation.
